Lower Zambezi & Chiawa

River safaris between the escarpment and the Zambezi

Destination guide

The Zambezi below Chirundu, where the Chiawa Game Management Area…

Downstream of Chirundu, the Zambezi runs between Zambia’s escarpment and Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools. On the Zambian bank, the Chiawa Game Management Area leads to the Lower Zambezi National Park.

The group has two very different places to stay here. Nsofu Lodge, at the confluence of the Zambezi and Kafue rivers about 17 km from Chirundu, is a riverside lodge with chalets and family villas, known for tiger fishing and sunset cruises. Further downstream, Elephant Crossing Safari Bushcamp is an intimate camp on the river in the heart of the Chiawa GMA, reached by road, by air or by boat from Nsofu.
